   Cabo Area Information

Los Cabos is made of the 2 larger towns San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, and many minor towns and ranchos. San Jose del Cabo Añuiti is the capital and is where the airport is located. Cabo San Lucas is home to Lands Ends and El Arco, the famous Arch. Villa La Estancia is located on Medano beach which is one of the best and also most popular swimming beach in Los Cabos.

Founded in 1730 by Jose Echeverria and Jesuits, with Spanish finance. Before becoming the Mission, San Jose was known as Añuiti by the native Pericu’s, and was greatly visited by English and Spanish fleets, mainly to fill up on water from their trades in the Orient, this also brought a lot of pirates, which legends says some of their treasure still lies in Cabo ground.

Today, San Jose is the more quieter sister of the two cities and is known for it’s quaint Mexican streets, cultural heritage, shopping and world class dining.

First seen by Spanish fleets in 1534, and was thought to be an Island. It is said that the founder of Cabo San Lucas is Thomas Richie who arrived in 1847,he is known as Old Richie, who was an English captain who fell in love with the land and stayed to live and prosper here in these beautiful lands, which seems to still have the same effects in many of us.

Cabo San Lucas also has a 100 year old light house which lighted the way for ships coming from the orient, known now as El Faro Viejo, the project and designer was Eng. Joaquín Palacios Gómez. de Madrid, Spain, who happens to be our guest service managers Oscar Riveros Ancestor.

These days, Cabo San Lucas is full of action during day and night, famous for its nightlife with world renowned Squid Roe and Nikki beach, Sammy Haggars Cabo Wabo (the name comes from back in the days, a local was feeling funky and Sammy asked him what’s up, he replyed “ yo me siento Cabo Wabo”), during the day, beaches can be seen full with activities, jet sking, parasailing, and not to mention the world class Marling fishing, also swimming with the dolphins, canopy in the canyons, horse back riding, and much more, that only one trip to Cabo will not seem to cover it all and will keep you longing to come back.

Airlines
Many major airlines and charter services offer direct service to the San Jose del Cabo (SJD) International Airport, located 29 miles from Cabo San Lucas. We do not handle air reservations, but will be happy to help with information to find the best option for your flight.

Ground Transportation
Private taxis, shuttle services, private service, and auto rentals are all available. We can make ground transportation arrangements for guests who book villa reservations through this web site.

Most of the major car rental agencies are in Cabo. We recommend that you book in advance of arriving in Cabo for the best rates. There is free parking at Villa La Estancia.

Restaurants
Cabo San Lucas offers a wide range of restaurants for all tastes. Seafood is outstanding and fresh. But there are also many restaurants that focus on international cuisine, including Chinese, Japanese, Italian, and Spanish. And, of course, most of the American fast food franchises are there. You will also find smaller, family-owned local restaurants with great Mexican food.

Weather
The weather in Cabo is generally sunny and warm during the day year round. In the winter, a jacket or sweater usually feels good during the evenings. Summers are warmer, but the humidity is generally low. The cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean tend to moderate the heat of the tropics. Because Cabo San Lucas is in the desert, rain is rare.

Shopping
Whether you choose to do your shopping sitting on the beach or in the comfort of the newly opened Puerto Paraiso mall, there is something for everyone in Cabo. Handicrafts from all parts of Mexico are available here, as well as, jewelry and outstanding craft pieces from around the world. Cabo has many supermarkets (including Costco) and specialty food stores, so cooking in your condo is made easy. A well-stocked mini-market and deli are available on the Villa La Estancia property.

Money
Dollars are widely accepted, but pesos may be preferable to get the best exchange rate. ATM's are plentiful; there is an ATM on-site. Credit cards are generally accepted by restaurants and local vendors.
